I am involved with a number of modules within the Brunel Design School, all currently on the Digital Media courses.

DX1601 Acquisition for Visual Effects - this module is a combination of quite practical work on location, but also post production with 3D and compositing tools. It seeks to equip students with the skills to capture information on set to assist with later VFX post production and walks through an example project from inception to delivery to showcase where and how that information is used.

DX2608 3D Design - this module features on the BSc Digital Design course and introduces students to the theory and practice of creating 3D assets using hard surface modelling techniques, The module look at creating the geometry, texturing and shading, lighting and rendering, with a very brief introduction to animation.

DX2700 Visual Effects Compositing - this study block examines Compositing, one of the final stages of most post production workflows where images from various sources, live action cameras, 3D, matte paintings, green screen are combined together to create a seamless whole. It features a combination of capturing assets for compositing, particularly in our green screen along with use of compositing software such as Nuke. The block is assessed as part of the DX2800 VFX Portfolio assessment block.

DX2800 VFX Portfolio - an assessment block that combines the assessment for DX2700 above with the assessment for DX2701 Advanced 3D CGI. The assessment features a year long project that is assessed through 3 milestones and combines your 3D asset creation skills (particularly for environments) with your compositing skills.

DX3614 Advanced 3D Animation - this module combines a number of advanced animation techinques, in particular motion capture and 3D simulation. As such a section of the module is in our motion capture studio, whilst the rest of the module looks at mo-cap post production and then the simulation section of the module looks at the creation of various FX such as fire, water simulation, crowds and the like.
