Research Interests

Kim was a Senior Research Fellow and Trial Manager at the University of Southampton between 2011 and 2018. She has extensive experience in questionnaire and survey design, qualitative research, cohort studies and clinical trials. Throughout her research career, Kim developed expert knowledge of the lifecycle of research from design to publication and the key steps involved in delivery; including development of detailed trial protocol compliant and project plans with all applicable regulation; the approvals processes; statistical analysis plans; data management plans; working with trial committees; and risk-based trial monitoring.

PhD Thesis (Awarded 2013): Family Communication Following Genetic Testing for BRCA1/2. (Funded by CRUK Studentship). Supervisors: Professor Claire Foster and Professor Julia Addington-Hall (University of Southampton). Brief Synopsis of Research: A systematic review and qualitative study looking at individuals’ experiences of genetic testing for BRCA1/2 (the high risk genes associated with breast and ovarian cancer), with specific focus on who they communicated with throughout the process, why and how. This research utilised an in-depth interview method and thematic analysis to identify specific support needs and preferences of those who have under gone genetic testing for BRCA1/2; with the view to informing future work to develop interventions to aid such family communication.
