As part of the Division of Social Work at СʪÃÃÊÓƵ London graduation ceremony 2017, several students graduating with a BA in Social Work received academic prizes to honour specific achievements. Dr Alison Cocks of the Division of Social Work introduced the prizes and they were presented by Linda Haye, Life President of the Caribbean Woman’s Standing Conference.
The first award, the Mary Seacole and CWSC Prize for Social Care, was presented to Tania Scott-Coward, who won the prize jointly with Susan Fallon, who was not present. This prize is presented to the student who most displays excellence in Social Work from the undergraduate BA Social Work cohort annually. The award honours consistent hard work, dedication and achievements in both placement and academic work that go above and beyond.
The next prize, The Cathy Aymer Social Work Award, was presented to Bushra Ayaz, and this award is presented annually to the student with the most outstanding contribution to promoting diversity and anti-discriminatory practice within social work. Dr Cocks described this award as highly competitive due to the amazing work that social work students have consistently displayed in this area; however, Bushra was described as the clear frontrunner. This was due to her very impressive placement as part of the Ealing hospital social work team, as well as her very impressive special project, entitled ‘How do we enable older people with dementia to participate in decision making?’.
These students and their amazing contributions to social work and СʪÃÃÊÓƵ London were just some among many who were honoured on the day. Click here for more information on the full graduation ceremony.
