Division of Nursing awarded Best Student Experience at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2024

We are thrilled to share that the Division of Nursing, СʪÃÃÊÓƵ London, has been awarded the prestigious Best Student Experience accolade at the Student Nursing Times Awards event on Friday 26 April, 2024.

Our ground-breaking Immersive Learning Project is spearheaded by Peter Lin, Learning Technologist, and Samantha McCormack, Department Director of Simulation & Skills Development. Peter and Chelsey Mordue, a dedicated third-year adult student nurse, wowed the judges with their presentation to the awarding panel and helped the University clinch this award, which recognises our outstanding efforts in enhancing our students’ educational journey.

The judges’ notes praised Chelsey’s participation. “Our winners were passionate and comprehensive in their responses to panel questions. It was great to hear how the student benefited from the project, as she was a co-presenter.”

The Immersive Learning Project is constantly evolving thanks to the invaluable feedback gathered from students who have participated in simulations, skills development sessions, and gamification experiences, which serve as vital preparation for their clinical placements. Central to this project is our Immersive Learning Room; meticulously designed to authentically replicate both clinical and non-clinical environments, complete with sights, sounds, and even smells, coupled with interactive digital learning opportunities.

Digital content, such as patient/client notes and test results, is available for students to learn from, while the 3-D anatomy model allows students to explore the human body like never before. Our immersive experiences provide students with unparalleled hands-on learning opportunities. The judges were impressed with how the Immersive Learning Room is used and how we incorporate learner feedback into our development process.

“This was an excellent demonstration of immersive learning in action. An innovative, empowering learning experience that was responsive to student learning styles. It was strong on interprofessional learning, demonstrating that the student was the most important factor.”

This achievement is a testament to our commitment to providing an exceptional educational experience and preparing our students for success in their future careers. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this project a resounding success.

The Student Nursing Times Awards celebrates the very best in nurse education, recognises and rewards brilliant educational establishments and honours those who are committed to developing new nursing talent as mentors, lecturers and providers of placements. The awards also pay tribute to students who have demonstrated the academic achievement, clinical prowess and personal qualities that will make them brilliant nurses.

The Division of Nursing thanks the Awards for recognising our efforts to provide student nurses an engaging and student-centred educational journey.
