A New Look for Brunel Library's Ground Floor СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Space

Excitement has been growing at Brunel Library as the Ground Floor study space receives new furniture and a major layout change. Brunel Library has been working closely with Central Services to purchase new furniture for the Shared СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Space. The furniture has been specifically chosen to respond to student need.

Library staff have been working hard over the past couple of years to capture student feedback about the library space. The new furniture and layout are an example of how students can make a difference to their study space by taking part in the library’s annual survey, pulse surveys and feedback events like last year’s “Have Your Say Day.”

Students asked for more comfortable chairs, more charging points for laptops, better cable management for PCs and a more attractive space to study in. The new furniture responds to these needs, with new chairs and powered desks. The previous “wavy” tables have been replaced with straighter desks that provide the same amount of study space while providing more floor space to increase flow around the area.

With phase one nearing completion, the library is now looking forward to the second phase of the project which will start towards the end of April. This includes 200 new chairs for the rest of the library and additional pods and booths for the Learning Commons area on the first floor. The pods and booths will provide more opportunities for individual and group study, while also reducing the noise levels in the nearby Post Graduate study room.
