Why I’m not afraid of returning to study

Posted: February 22 2022

My journey has been an enlightening one and I acquired a wide range of transferable skills, developed through my extensive work experience of 15 years having worked with IIRIS, IFC, private Defence Company, Diplomatic Missions including British High Commission, Australian High Commission, Israel Embassy, US Embassy and Jet Airways (I) Pvt. Ltd. comprising Executive Manager, Administrative Officer, Guest Relations Officer and Flight Operations Assistant.

Unfortunately, I lost my job due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and since then I have learned to live with ambiguity and uncertainty. With my zeal and passion to pursue Master of Business Administration, I believe this is the right time to upgrade my knowledge and skills aiming to develop the ability to think and work across boundaries and borders - vital skills for today's globalised economy.

I was highly inspired and intrigued by my Indian Military Men in uniform who see impenetrable barriers as challenges to embrace and obstacles to overcome them. Their confidence in the face of adversities is driven by the capability to let go of the negativity.

Success in life is driven by the belief that failures are the result of personal deficits beyond one’s control or mistakes that can be corrected with effort. This success mindset requires emotional intelligence (EQ). There is no magic wand to banish fear. However, no impediment will prevent you from reaching your full potential if you practice discipline and focus. Aristotle once quoted: 'Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.'

Age: I did not let my age define me or my ability. Rather than listening to individuals who feel obligated to tell me what I should and shouldn't do because of my age, I followed my heart and let my passion lead me.

What Other People Think: I believe that my self-worth comes from within, thus caring what other people think is a waste of time and energy.

Toxic Individuals: I believe in a principle that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Toxic people drag you right down with them, just as great people help you realise full potential.

Fear: Fear is a choice. Never, ever, ever hold back in life because you are afraid. “The worst thing that can happen to you is allowing yourself to die inside while you’re still alive.”

Negativity: Life doesn’t always go the way I want it to, but when it comes down to it, instead of whining about how things could or should have been, I reflected on all the things I have to be thankful for. Then I look for the best solutions available, tackle the issue, and move on.

The Past or the Future: My success mantra in life is: To live in the moment, I must Accept my past and Accept the uncertainty of my future, and certainly do not place unnecessary expectations upon myself.

Don't hold back I believe learning has no limitations. Mature students, like all students, bring a unique blend of strengths and complexities to the classroom, which enriches everyone's learning experience. Re-entering education, sometimes after a gap of several decades, brings its own, quite daunting challenges, but a pupil with a positive attitude and a willingness to work always has an advantage.
