Choosing a subject to pursue in university is a daunting task for many. This blog aims to help individuals who are not quite sure which course to pick.

While there is a plethora of factors that you can take into account when deciding on a subject to apply for, here are the ones I used to make that decision. First and foremost, make sure to look for a course that you are genuinely interested in. The course which you pick does not necessarily determine what you will be doing for the rest of your life. It's always possible to change courses or start anew, however, this does come with numerous complications which are best to avoid. Therefore, it's always best to pick a course which you can see yourself pursuing in the long run.

The next step is scoping out the jobs that an individual with a degree in said subject could obtain. Doing this allows you to see how easily you will be able to apply yourself once you get your degree, the salary you should be expecting, and yet again whether such jobs would interest you and bring you joy in doing. This is important in order to prevent any disappointment from happening later on.

While the following step might be apparent to many, it is always helpful to pick a course which not only interests you but one which you are good at. Countless students have a hard time in university even when studying subjects they are good at, making studying a subject you are not particularly good at all the more difficult.

At this stage, you have likely thinned your options to a couple courses and are picking between the few. A good thing to do now is to look through the individual course contents to see a lot of detail that will help you make the right decision, e.g. length of course, which course offers more suitable modules for you, entry requirements, fees and et cetera to find which is the perfect course for you.
