BBS becomes Signatory of the UN Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME)

Young Scholars Programme

Brunel Business School (BBS) has become a signatory of the  , which serves as a global network for leading business schools to advance corporate sustainability and social responsibility globally.

Launched in 2007, the UN PRME initiative is a framework for continual, systemic and strategic change in business and management schools, based on ongoing improvement, a learning network, and reporting progress to stakeholders. The mission of PRME is to transform management education, research and thought leadership globally by providing the Principles for Responsible Management Education framework, developing learning communities and promoting awareness about the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

PRME is the largest organised relationship between the UN and business schools all over the world. It acts as a platform to raise the profile of sustainability in schools around the world, and to equip today's business students with the understanding and ability to deliver change tomorrow. PRME aims to transform management education, research and thought leadership globally and develop a new generation of responsible business leaders.

As committed signatories of the UN PRME initiative we will incorporate into our academic activities, curricula, and organisational practices the values of global social responsibility as portrayed in international initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact and we will develop the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy.

“By joining UN PRME, we recognise the critical role of education in acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to ensure the sustainability of our planet. We are committed to helping the next generation of business managers, leader and entrepreneurs engage in global issues; tackling social, political, economic and environmental challenges. We want all our students and staff to participate in an interconnected world, and benefit from shared sense of purpose around actively embracing human rights, gender equality and an appreciation of cultural diversity and social responsibility.” Professor Jane Hendy, Head of Brunel Business School

Brunel Business School is commitment to the six UN PRME principles:

  • Principle 1 – Purpose: BBS will develop the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy.
  • Principle 2 – Values: BBS will incorporate into our academic activities and curricula the values of global social responsibility as portrayed in international initiatives such as the United Nations Global Compact.
  • Principle 3 – Method: BBS will create educational frameworks, materials, processes and environments that enable effective learning experiences for responsible leadership.
  • Principle 4 – Research: BBS will engage in conceptual and empirical research that advances our understanding about the role, dynamics, and impact of corporations in the creation of sustainable social, environmental and economic value.
  • Principle 5 – Partnership: BBS will interact with managers of business corporations to extend our knowledge of their challenges in meeting social and environmental responsibilities and to explore jointly effective approaches to meeting these challenges.
  • Principle 6 – Dialogue: BBS will facilitate and support dialogue and debate among educators, students, business, government, consumers, media, civil society organisations and other interested groups and stakeholders on critical issues related to global responsibility and sustainability.

BBS will share progress and commitment to the principles of PRME through regular Sharing Information on Progress (SIP) reports.

“Responsible management education is a high priority for BBS and becoming a signatory to the UN PRME was the next logical step in fulfilling our mission to foster innovative and responsible teaching, research and scholarship.” Dr Joana Vassilopoulou, Director of Diversity, Sustainability and Social Responsibility at Brunel Business School
