Tell us about your career journey since you graduated…
I started as a Technical Consultant with Accenture on their graduate program - from there I moved into Automation and Cloud architecture and am now in Sales Leadership, leading a team across Europe, the Middle East and Africa to deliver value to customers from our software.
What does a typical day at work involve for you?
Team development and people focus, developing the team’s sales muscle, and working with our customers to help with digitization and transformation.
What’s been the highlight of your career so far?
I developed and architected a value based selling program that became the company standard. I also travelled around the world to help enable the whole company, which took me from Australia to Phoenix (AZ) and many countries in-between.
How would you say Brunel helped you to get where you are today?
Brunel prepared my mindset to learn a variety of skills, and with the support of my peers and lecturers, I was set-up for success. To this day I am still in touch with my dissertation mentor and many friends who have made my career journey possible.
Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?
The engineering pedigree at Brunel is very strong and definitely met my expectations. There is a strong collaboration culture; everyone wants to help and support you, from students to staff alike. It’s a very inclusive and diverse culture, you just fit in.
What is your best memory of studying here?
Two things come to mind: Firstly, everyone in the Library teaching each other what we didn't know before an exam. The students really held each other’s backs, and that was inspiring. There were modules I struggled with but there was always someone in the peer group to help. The second thing is a Street Fighter tournament on the very last day of term on an original super Nintendo. The staff gave us a 50-inch TV and a room - it was great to just let our hair down and finish the final year in style!
If you could give one piece of advice to new students, what would that be?
Ask for help when you need it, don't wait to get stuck. Everyone wants to help, do not feel intimidated. Figure out your operating rhythm early and set yourself up to succeed. Ensure that your operating rhythm includes personal time like the gym, hobbies etc. - your study / life balance is really important.
What would be your top tip or advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey?
Don't rush to figure out what you want to specialise in. Have an open mind and try different roles in the field you are interested in, as you can always come back to what you like the most. The experience across multiple skills and sectors will pay dividends as your career grows and will help make you more rounded, especially if you aspire to be a leader.
