Tell us about your educational and/or career journey since you graduated from Brunel.

During my MSc dissertation, I was simultaneously applying for Tier 2 jobs every day. Luckily, I secured one in a 360-marketing firm as a marketing data analyst. After three years I moved to the diamond industry and didn’t like it much so I decided to go for a job with more career fulfilment and joined civil service.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

The National Lottery has a goodwill bucket almost worth £2b which I analyse and help the fund optimise its funding process so the government money is allocated to communities in need and income-deprived areas. We are the big beast so we find almost everything. I build dashboards and work mostly with Python and SQL on a daily basis.

What’s been the highlight of your career journey so far?

The highlight of my career has been able to secure a civil service job and help my community.

How would you say your Brunel experience has helped you to get where you are today?

None of this would be possible without Brunel in the picture. I lived on campus for 4 years (BSc & MSc) and it was the best time of my life. I owe my career to Brunel for shaping me during my placement year so today I can be where I am.

Why did you choose to study at Brunel and why would you recommend Brunel to others?

I choose to study at Brunel unknowingly, to be honest, but I think that’s the best decision I’ve made because of the connections I made, the experiences I had and the faculty that helped me get to where I’m today.

What is your best memory of studying here?

When I secured my placement under Graham Taylor’s mentorship in MetLife, a Fortune 50 company as a digital marketing intern in Canary Wharf. My first real job ever!

If you could give one piece of advice to current Brunel students, what would that be?

Go for what you want, nothing is impossible!

What would be your top tip or key advice for new graduates as they begin their career journey after leaving Brunel?

Proactively knowing yourself and what you want in your career and life, keep cultivating it, and don’t be rigid because London is a city of opportunity. Be prepared and you will get lucky.
