Choosing where to live during your time at university can be stressful.

That’s why I am here to help you! As I have spent all my time at university living in student halls, I have managed to gather the pros and cons of living on campus.

Pros

Experience

Living on campus gives you the full university experience! It teaches you many valuable lessons such as learning to become independent and responsible for things such as doing your groceries and remembering to do laundry!

Meeting People

Since you are likely to be with people who are in the same situation as you (new to living by themselves and wanting to meet new people), you will get the opportunity to make new friends with your flatmates.

Access

As Brunel is a single-site university, you have easy access to all the facilities available. Living on campus means that it only takes a quick walk to get to lectures, use the library or the on-campus gym without having to worry about commuting!

Safety

Your safety at Brunel is incredibly important, that’s why there is a 24/7 security service. You will also find that there are usually other students awake at late hours either just walking around on campus and using the facilities or in the library doing some work - so you are never alone!

Cons

Difficult flatmates

Living with flatmates can be problematic at times. This can be in the form of things such as cleanliness or noise. To avoid this, it is important to communicate with each other and set boundaries when necessary. Creating a group chat between you and your flatmates can be useful when doing this.

Cost

In comparison to living at home and several shared off-campus accommodations, living costs can be quite pricey. However, this can be easily managed by budgeting and managing your spending.
