Starting a new era of life, going to university can be daunting at first. Opening a bank account, buying bedsheets and pots and pans while settling into your accommodation are just a few of the checklist chores to get done in the mad rush of the first week.

However, once that's done, it’s time to get things in place and gear yourself up for this life-changing journey. Here are a few tips that can help you get the most out of your university years.

Manage your workload

It is quite easy to become distracted by the other chaos associated with student life that you often forget what you are there for in the first place – to learn and build your future! Set out an agenda, prioritize your goals, and start working well in time for your exams and assignments.

Utilize the services available

It is important to understand that university is not just about attending classes and passing exams. An integral part of making the most out of your degree is networking. Use the career and support services available & gain experience by volunteering, part-time jobs, summer internships, and placements. This will not only make your CV stand out from the rest but also plays a huge role in your overall development.

Get out of your comfort zone

Try out new things may it be food cuisines from around the world or new sports. Join clubs and societies and attend their events. And if you don’t find something you like, go create your very own society. Your Students' Union will offer full administrative and financial support to get you started.

Build new friendships

One of the best things about university is that it puts you in contact with people from a number of different countries. It is a great opportunity to learn about different cultures, religions, and ethnicities. Sharing experiences, having fun, and studying together will not only make you a well-rounded person but also equip you with the skills needed to work with all kinds of people in the outside world.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Starting university can be a wonderful and exciting experience, yet it brings its own unique challenges, so it is important to be kind to yourself. Missing home, struggling with course or making friends, finding a hard time settling down; it all comes with it! Feel free to ask questions if anything is unclear and don’t be afraid to seek help, may it be social, physical, mental, or academic support.

Whatever the challenges students face, most people overcome them and learn important life lessons along the way. It can take some time, but you’ll get there – eventually :)
